The 1873 11mm cartridge
The original loading of this cartridge was composed of a Hollow point cast bullet of 11,7 grammes and of 0.65 grammes of black powder. This loading gave a very unpowerful war charge with a 130 meter/sec. initial speed. A second loading was issued in 1890. The case was replaced by a stronger one, the bullet weight was lowered to 11 grammes and the black powder charge was increased to 0.80 grammes. The initial speed then was 190 meters/sec. To reload this caliber one good option is to trim down some 44-40 cases (the xxx....therefore needs to be slimmed down). Another solution is to use the Lynx (french product) specially designed cases. (You can Email me for more infos). Here's the reloading (with french Vectan Powders)
