The
Mauser 1896 Mauser
Carbine - The
German Mauser C.96 semi-automatic pistol was one of the most popular weapons
in the early 20th Century. Although not having been adopted by any major
military power of that time, it enjoyed great commercial success, which
flooded the market with Spanish and Chinese copies. A 7.63 mm
caliber selective-fire model, the "Schnellfeuer" (Rapid Fire), was acquired
in the 1930s by was then Brazil's Military Police of the Federal District
(later to become Rio de Janeiro State's Military Police), remaining in
service until as recent as the early 1980s!
During the first years of production, Waffenfabrk Mauser also created and marketed a carbine version (long barrel, detachable stock, ). This, however, did not repeat the pistol's sales performance, and just about 1,000 examples were manufactured, those eventually becoming prized collector's items. One such Mauser Carbine, serial number "767" , recently ended up in the hands of police authorities. Except for the non-original stock-retaining screw, the weapons is in fairly good conditions. |
